The Wisdom Seekers Society was born from a simple yet deeply felt truth: in a world filled with noise, speed, and constant instruction on who we should beโor who we should followโmany of us have forgotten how to listen to the quiet wisdom already living within us.
We are surrounded by voices telling us what to believe, how to think, and which path to follow. But beneath all of that, there is a deeper currentโa gentle, steady knowing that belongs to each of us. The Wisdom Seekers Society exists to help people remember that voice.
At its heart, the Society is not about teaching people what wisdom is. It is about creating a space where wisdom can reveal itself. We do not position ourselves as experts with answers, but as fellow travellers holding a lantern in the dark, inviting others to sit, reflect, and explore.
It is intentionally a space without excessive noise, rigid dogma, or the pressure to conform to a single belief system. Instead, we offer a quiet corner of the world where curiosity is welcomed and differences are seen as bridges rather than barriers.
A Quiet Space in a Noisy World
The Wisdom Seekers Society is a spiritual community for self-discoveryโcreated for seekers, thinkers, and curious minds who long for deeper connection.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that myths, omens, symbols, and stories have always been humanityโs shared language. Across continents and cultures, people have used the same archetypes to describe lifeโs mysteriesโthe heroโs journey, the sacred tree, the rising phoenix, the flowing river.
These symbols remind us that beneath our different languages, traditions, and belief systems, we are connected by the same human questions, the same fears, and the same hopes.
Through dialogue, philosophy, astrology, the Enneagram, human design, and other reflective tools, we invite our members to explore themselves and one another with openness and compassion.
The aim is not to fix, heal, or perfect anyone. It is to create the conditions for genuine self-discovery. When people are given the space to listenโto themselves and to each otherโjudgement softens, curiosity deepens, and connection begins to feel natural again.
Michelleโs Journey Across Cultures and Careers
Michelle Cheyne, founder of the Wisdom Seekers Society, is a passionate multipotentialite with a deep love for learning and human connection.
Born in Namibia and raised in the quiet town of Swellendam, South Africa, her life has been shaped by movement, curiosity, and the search for belonging. She is a natural explorer of ideas, experiences, and perspectives, with a vision to create spaces where others can rediscover their own innate wisdom.
A Life of Curiosity and Change
Michelleโs academic journey began with a law degree. After three years, she became disillusioned by the lack of justice she witnessed in the system. Rather than forcing herself to stay on a path that no longer felt true, she followed her curiosity. She went out to explore the world on her own… Off to England on a working holiday visa, exploring Europe. Being pickpocketed… stranded in Budapest over Christmas. An American boyfriend she met in Amsterdam and all kinds of adventures ensued. One of the most profound experiences ended up running a backpackers in Coffeebay, Transkei, South Africa. Her American partner and her were there for 3 months and fell in love. Not only with the people, but the land. THe richness of the community. She still feels strong ties to this magical part of the world.
Then struggling to get into and spend time in California. Eventually living there for 9 months and making such a profound connection with the land. Visas running out and a lack of freedom of movement brought her back home and back to her first love, psychology. Initially told that she has too much ‘potential’ to pursue a career in this, a stubborn soul like hers always follow their heart, and in 2002 she returned to her studies, Psychology and Medical Law subjects.
She taught at a family-run school while completing her PGCE in Swellendam and later earned her BA (Honours) in Psychology. Her work as a psychometrist allowed her to move across a wide range of contextsโfrom medico-legal assessments to career guidance and cognitive testing.
Alongside her professional life, she embraced motherhood, navigating the joys and challenges of raising her children while continuing her search for deeper meaning and understanding.
A Turning Point in the UK
In 2015, Michelle moved to the United Kingdom. She had to start the process of rebuilding her life and career in a new country. Like many migrants, she navigated unfamiliar systems, cultural differences, and the challenge of starting again.
Her first interviews were with large corporate organisations, including IBM and Korn Ferry. While the roles seemed promising, she quickly realised that the depth of her studiesโlearning theory, cognition, personality, human behaviour, and lawโwere often reduced to sales techniques and performance metrics. Subsequently, the human depth she valued felt flattened into targets and numbers.
Her next role was with British Airways as an assessment practitioner, where she assessed middle management, pilots, and administrative staff. The work drew on her psychological background, yet the rhythm of city life revealed a deeper truth.
A move away from the city became the only way for her family to reconnect with what they felt was truly important. They chose to move further north into a more rural environment. Seeking space, nature, and a slower, more instinctive way of living.
Work opportunities were limited, but the shift in lifestyle marked an important turning point. During this time, Michelle began working as a learning mentor for the local council. Supporting children who had been excluded from school.
The work was demanding and often thankless, but deeply human. Her experience with three Syrian boys in a particular gave the role profound meaning. Through them, she witnessed resilience, trauma, adaptation, and the quiet strength of the human spirit. It was a period rich with lessons and connections. Even if there was still little room to grow or fully use the depth of what she had to offer.
The Birth of Instinctive Living
These experiences across countries, careers, and systems revealed a clear pattern. Again and again, Michelle found herself in environments that valued linear thinking, rigid structures, and predefined paths. Yet her own mind and spirit moved differentlyโcurious, exploratory, nonlinear, and instinctive.
Rather than forcing herself into systems that didnโt honour that way of being, she began listening more closely to her own inner rhythm.
From this process, Instinctive Living was born. A space where she could finally align her work with intuition, creativity, and lived experience. What began as a personal shift soon evolved into a platform rooted in curiosity, dialogue, and spiritual self-exploration.
Out of this foundation, the Wisdom Seekers Society naturally emerged. A global community for seekers, thinkers, and creative souls who feel the same quiet pull toward deeper understanding.
A Nonlinear Path Toward Inner Wisdom
Michelleโs life has never followed a straight line. Her path has moved across countries, careers, and identitiesโguided not by rigid plans, but by curiosity and instinct.
She describes herself as a blend of fire, earth, and waterโconstantly evolving, learning, and embracing both the chaos and beauty of life.
- Enneagram: 4w5 (Self-Preservation)
- Astrology: Sagittarius Sun, Capricorn Moon, Aries Rising
- Human Design: Manifesting Generator 3/5
Above all, she is a seeker and a guide who continues to explore what it means to be human.
Sheโs a unique blend of fire, earth, and waterโconstantly evolving, learning, and embracing the unknown. She loves to embrace the chaos and beauty of life with the same open-minded approach she applies to all things.
A Favourite Quote
Michelle’s approach to life is captured in one of her favourite quotes:
โBefore you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes.โ
@debihope
This quote reflects her belief in the importance of understanding and context in every journey of growth, change, and healing.
A Global Community of Seekers
The Wisdom Seekers Society is Michelleโs offering to others who feel that same quiet pull. A place where seekers and thinkers can gather, not to be told what is true, but to explore truth together.
It is a spiritual tribe for self-discovery built on curiosity, dialogue, and the recognition that wisdom is universal, timeless, and deeply personal.
In a divided world, we believe that shared symbols. In honest conversation, and the courage to listen inward, can create bonds that reach beyond race, culture, and belief.
The Wisdom Seekers Society is that belief in practice: a quiet, compassionate space where humanity remembers itself.
